PRIVATE DUTY MINI-CONFERENCE: 3 SESSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM

"Human Resources" Session - (8:30 AM - 12:00 PM)______________________ Speaker: Elizabeth Murphy ______ _____(1:00 PM - 4:30 PM repeat)

This program will highlight some of the basics of human resources practice, with an aim toward limiting potential liability for employment violations. The program will cover all aspects of the employment relationship, from hiring to firing, and everything in between. You will learn how to avoid potential discrimination claims, how to make smart decisions regarding hiring, promotion and termination, how to conduct a workplace investigation, and many other useful tools. The program will also cover basic wage & hour principals, such as minimum wage, overtime, exempt/non-exempt status, independent contractor status, meal periods, split shift premiums, and the deductibility of sleeping time.

"Workers Compensation" Session (8:30 AM - 12:00 PM)___________________ Speaker: Merideth Wieland

This program is a workers’ comp 101 session that helps employers comply with the law and understand how they can influence their workers’ comp claims experience. This includes touching on what experience modifications are (ex-mod), how they are calculated and how they impact the workers’ comp premium. In addition, we will address the legal process and how to avoid certain pitfalls.

"Unionization" Session (1:00 PM - 4:30 PM)____________________________ Speaker: L. Anthony George

This program is designed to help supervisors and managers understand how they could become unionized, why that would be bad for them and their employees, and what they can do to prevent it. The focus is on practical explanations and advice, rather than legal theory. The program is highly interactive, with the speaker calling on the attendees to supply many of the answers and share their own experiences for the benefit of everyone.
