The California Association for Health Services at Home is proud to present a new teleconference series for your valuable team members - the hospice aides. Each teleconference is an hour in length and will cover topics as diverse as pain management and palliative care, cultural differences regarding end of life and empowering patients and their families. Hospice Volunteers may also find the teleconferences useful.

This presentation will focus on understanding various cultures, belief systems and rituals associated with death and the dying process. Far beyond caring, our knowledge and respect for varying beliefs is crucial to excellent care delivery.

The presentation will focus on the caregiver rather than the patient. The aide will be introduced to the need for caregiver support and will be able to identify signs of caregiver stress and burn-out.

This presentation will focus on understanding role strain and compassion fatigue within the family. It is essential that family members are encouraged and empowered to continue to provide care to the dying patient while maintaining their own personal health.

This presentation will provide insight into the valuable role the aide plays in evaluating process and developing ways to enhance care and performance. The aide’s role as a team member is essential in the overall performance improvement plan of the agency.

The presenter for this series is Michelle Davis White, MSN, RN, Director, HomeCare Providers. Michelle has served as faculty for State aide training programs; has developed aide curriculum; overseen services for patients with life limiting conditions; and serves on several advisory taskforces and boards that impact aide training and aide services. Michelle is a frequent speaker at home care and hospice educational events.
