ABOUT
The goal of the Hospice Manager Certificate Program HMCP™ is to provide managers and
mid-level supervisors the core business operating principles and tools necessary to successfully manage a hospice program. This program was designed to improve your coaching skills, build your management team, help you understand the new hospice conditions of participation and state laws impacting your agency. Learn the fundamentals of budgeting, financial management, compliance, marketing, regulatory and human resources of entry level hospice managers.

GENERAL SESSIONS
Day One Overview
In today’s complex and regulated health care environment, hospice managers must have the skills necessary to lead teams of staff and volunteers while at the same time ensuring compliance within the organization. Materials covered in this session will provide hospice managers information and tools to lead interdisciplinary teams and to assist in improving understanding of various local, state and federal regulations impacting daily hospice operations.
Day Two Overview
Hospice managers must be able to manage the financial complexities of their depart or division and how it may impact the overall organization’s performance. In doing so, hospice manager must understand the fundamentals of financial management, billing, budgeting, and accountabilities to the manager position. This module will provide the basic information required of hospice managers related to these financial and reimbursement basics. Specific exercises will highlight key elements of hospice financial performance and provide opportunities for hospice managers to practice these basic financial concepts.
Day Three Overview
Hospice managers need many skills and tools to lead a team or an organization. Coaching is one of the most powerful tools successful managers use. To incorporate the best practices, managers must also be familiar with basic human resources practices and employment law to assure appropriate support is given to employees. This session will focus on improving your skills as a coach so you can improve your team’s development and your understanding of basic employment laws to manage a successful hospice operation.
CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION - Separate Registration Required
Certification attests that an individual has met industry standards through assessment of their knowledge. CAHSAH offers three different levels of certification for home care and hospice. Getting certified is a two-part process. Candidates must submit a formal application to demonstrate eligibility to sit for the examination, and then successfully pass an examination covering the functions performed in the specified credential. Only approved candidates meeting specified criteria through a formal application process will be allowed to participate in the certification examination. In order for candidates to take the exam, candidates must have been deemed eligible through a formal application process. After the application has been accepted, candidates may then register and pay for the certification examination. Detailed examination registration instructions will be included in the acceptance correspondence.

FACULTY
Jeannee Parker Martin President and co-owner of The Corridor Group, Inc., Jeannee Parker Martin is an internationally known leader in the development of innovative healthcare programs. Active in health service planning, development and delivery of care since the late-1970’s, Jeannee has assisted organizations around the world ─ spanning the US, Central and South America, Thailand, and Turkey. She was the only home care and hospice expert to consult with the WHO Global Programme on AIDS in 1989, and for the US Department of State in South Africa in 2002.
Claire Tehan As the founder and CEO of TrinityCare Hospice for 28 years, Ms. Tehan has extensive experience in all aspects of hospice operations within a home health agency as well as multi-hospital system. She is known for her leadership in the development of innovative programs, including AIDS case management, pediatric hospice care, and an inpatient palliative care consultation team in partnership with two community hospitals. Claire successfully integrated four hospice programs into TrinityCare Hospice. Her expertise also includes strategic planning and change management.
Betsy Gornet Betsy has over 20 years experience in strategically leveraging financial and operational assets to fulfill a health care organization’s mission and vision. She has experience in managing and leading health care organizations across the continuum of care, including acute and specialty hospitals, long-term care, physician practices, home health and hospice. She has managed budgets ranging from $2–$500 million in both for-profit and not-for-profit environments.
Elizabeth Murphy is a native of Los Angeles, and has been practicing law since 1994. Ms. Murphy specializes in the defense of employers, in the full range of employment matters, including: advising employers regarding everyday situations that arise, such as how to fire someone, how much leave employees are entitled to, etc.; helping employers to prepare or update employee manuals; defending employers in wage and hour actions, class action cases, and wrongful termination cases; and providing training and educational programs to employers.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The Hospice Manager Certificate Program HMCP™ is designed for front-line supervisors, middle managers, business owners, emerging managers, supervisors or any middle management personnel of a Medicare-certified hospice. More experienced managers will gain insights and a refreshed understanding of hospice.

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION & CEUS
Continuing Education Hours will be provided to participants who view the program in its entirety. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider # CEP2463) and by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Provider # PCE588) for up to nineteen (19) contact hours of continuing education. You must be present for the entire workshop to earn
Continuing Education Units. No partial credits can be
given.

CANCELLATIONS:
Received 10 business days prior to the program date are subject to a 20% handling fee. Cancellations must be in writing. NO REFUNDS will be issued for cancellations received within 10 business days of the program. Refunds will NOT be made for no-shows. However, substitutions will be allowed. Should CAHSAH cancel the program, a full registration fee refund will be issued. |
