CAHSAH Misson and Content

The "CAHSAH Forum” ListServe, formed January 2003, is intended for information and discussion pertaining to home care industry related issues. We hope that the CAHSAH ListServe will foster among its subscribers a sense of community and camaraderie within our industry and provide a place for people to learn, discuss, and share information in a professional and friendly environment.

Here is our official statement of what is acceptable/not acceptable use of the CAHSAH Listserve.

The CAHSAH ListServe is a non-commercial listserve. It is intended to be an educational and informative online forum where home care industry professionals can interact, exchange ideas, and learn from each other. The California Association for Health Services at Home (CAHSAH) maintains a zero tolerance policy regarding misuse of the CAHSAH ListServe. Any blatant effort by a CAHSAH ListServe subscriber to use it as a vehicle for promotional purposes will be dealt with swiftly. A first offense will result in a warning. A second offense will result in permanent deletion from the CAHSAH ListServe.

Moderation

The CAHSAH ListServe is "semi-moderated", meaning in this case that while subscribers are able to post directly to the list, the list administrators reserve the right to:

  • remove disruptive or misguided/junk-mail posts from the queue, if caught in time,
  • order a disruptive thread to cease,
  • insist upon adherence to the list's clearly stated purpose of discussing home care industry related issues,
  • unsubscribe repeat offenders and severe abusers of the list, and/or
  • determine what constitutes disruptive behavior and gauge the severity of the abuse.

That said, this power is rarely used, as the list is actually self moderating-Subscribers are encouraged to not stand for immature postings and to use private email (not public posts) to express their dissatisfaction with each other. It is further expected that posts made to the list will not contain unconstructive flames or excerpts from other people's private email (unless with permission).

It is a shortcoming of this kind of forum that whatever is posted becomes incontrovertible fact until a rebuttal is posted, which in turn demands a reply from all who disagree, and so on. By choosing to create and administrate an un-moderated mailing list (well, mostly un-moderated), we have accepted the consequences of its nature, and likewise, those who subscribe to it also must accept that there is the likely possibility of having to read heated discussions that erupt between a relatively small number of impassioned individuals on the list. If, however, the CAHSAH ListServe content within a discussion becomes null and the debate deteriorates into purely personal jabs and defenses, both parties run the risk of unceremonious removal from the list and/or some creatively worded requests to "discontinue" coming in private email from other CAHSAH ListServers.

New Subscriptions

If you haven't already subscribed to the list, you can join by registering at www.cahsah.org/listserve.asp. When posting to the list, post from the address at which you are subscribed. Mail sent to the list from non-subscribed addresses is sent to an administrator who may or may not forward it on to the list, depending on its content.

More Posting Guidelines

The size and wide distribution of the CAHSAH ListServe necessitates the following restrictions.

Spams - Expressly forbidden on the list is the rebroadcast of petitions, chain letters, alerts, calls to action, get-rich-quick schemes, rumors of the Imminent Death Of The Net(tm), political rant, recurring Virus or Modem Tax hoaxes, or similar resource-hogging, bandwidth-wasting spams so often propagated on lists.

Marketing and Recruiting Services - Soliciting business, providing a commercial post or recuriting for jobs is strictly prohibited. It is a violation of CAHSAH ListServe policy to post commercial messages to the CAHSAH ListServe, an action that will result in reprimand, and permanent removal on a second offense. If you work for a vendor/supplier company, you may have your contact information, including URL in your signature line but may not post any sales information nor may you solicit directly to those on the list. If you are interested in recruiting for positions, CAHSAH does have a job board at www.cahsah.org/jobline.htm. For information on posting jobs, fees, etc. please visit www.cahsah.org/2003adrates.pdf.

Cross posting - The general rule of thumb about cross posting is, if you are not subscribed to a list, don't try to post to it. Try to resist the temptation to post one message to multiple lists unless you are sure it is worthwhile.

Please keep your advice/experience posts as compact as possible, the list activity can sometimes be daunting. Please refrain from giving advice if you do not have direct experience, or cannot refer to someone who does.

Do not take advice from anyone on this list as "gospel"... there are many points of view, on practically every subject.
