Message from the Chair | August 2025
The month of July was a very difficult month. On July 9th, Dean Chalios, longtime President and CEO for the California Association for Health Services at Home (CAHSAH) announced his retirement to the CAHSAH Board of Directors. The Board accepted Dean’s retirement resignation – so as of August first, Dean will be heading into retirement from CAHSAH. I am excited for Dean in his future retirement activities, but he will be missed by all at CAHSAH. He has done a great job at the helm of CAHSAH these past years.
Dean served as President & CEO of CAHSAH from 2012 through July 2025. Prior to his joining the CAHSAH team, Dean had held senior positions with the California Medical Association and the California Dental Association. He also served on the staff of the California State Assembly and the United States Senate.
During his years with CAHSAH, Dean was always a staunch advocate for CAHSAH members. He has worked tirelessly to navigate the legislative issues for those providing health services at home in California. Dean has been the face of CAHSAH throughout California and the nation representing CAHSAH, our members and our clients. He will truly be missed.
I do want to let the CAHSAH members know that the Board of Directors is searching for Dean’s replacement. The good news is, until Dean’s replacement is found, Joe Hafkenschiel has agreed to serve as the Interim President and CEO for CAHSAH. Joe has agreed to come out of his retirement to help us out. Several members may know Joe Hafkenschiel. Joe served as the CAHSAH President and CEO prior to Dean Chalios coming on board. So, Joe knows the organization well. We are excited to have him helping us all out.
Please join the Board of Directors in thanking Dean for his years of service to CAHSAH and send best wishes to him in his future endeavors. He will truly be missed. And we want to welcome Joe Hafkenschiel back and thank him for helping us out in the interim.
